Born in San Jose', California and raised near Memphis, Tennessee, Nancy Carroum Avritt has played the piano since she was seven, and the flute since the age of ten. She never had to be told to practice, but in a household with four older brothers, she says she was frequently asked to stop! She attributes her success to excellent teachers, a musical mother, and a Franz metronome. She studied piano with private instructors for ten years and for another two years in college, where she also studied voice, music theory, ear training, and harmony, earning her Associate of Arts degree in 1994. Nancy has performed for the governor of Mississippi and has provided music for dozens of weddings and banquets. She spent 14 years giving lessons from her piano studio. After her youngest child started kindergarten, Nancy began songwriting. She felt there was a lack of wholesome songs for her older daughter to sing, so she began composing songs with nature themes. Composing soon led to recording, which soon led to a desire to share her music with others. She has released four CDs since 2004.While music is her main hobby, Nancy also enjoys photography and Mediterranean cooking. She resides in sunny Florida with her husband and two daughters where an orange tabby cat (from the local animal shelter, but don't remind her of THAT) and a rescued gray tabby (he's had quite a past, too) share a house with them.
